Former England midfielder, Kieron Dyer has been named as an ambassador for Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Online Charity Auction and has donated a unique ‘money can’t buy’ prize, for two people to accompany Kieron as his guest to watch Real Madrid – and world record signing Gareth Bale – play Barcelona at the Bernabeu stadium next March.
Having played some of his best football under Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle United (1999 – 2004) and inspired by his old manager’s inspiration, passion and kindness, Dyer, 34 hopes to continue the Sir Bobby’s legacy as a spokesperson for the auction.
His magnificent auction prize includes flights, accommodation and match tickets, as Dyer’s personal guest, to see Real versus Barcelona in the ‘Clasico’. Dyer has closely followed the career of Bale, 24, and the two know each well through mutual management teams. Dyer has no doubts that Bale can live up to his £86m price tag.
“Gareth is a quiet and humble guy away from the pitch but a completely different animal on it,’ Dyer says.’He’s driven, focused, confident, and I don’t think he’ll have any trouble justifying what was paid for him. He just needs to play to his ability and he’ll be fine.
“For me, the three best players in the world right now are Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale – and we can expect all three of them to be involved when Real host Barca in March. It’s an exciting prospect and a unique prize. I’d certainly hope to introduce the winning bidder to Gareth – and who knows who else?’
Considered one of the sporting world’s biggest auctions, Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough will raise crucial funds for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and cancer services within two Suffolk Hospitals.
Dyer joins a growing list of sport stars, personalities and leading businesses who have given their support to the Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough online auction, including acclaimed actor, Bill Nighy, Tottenham Hotspur Manager, Andre Villas-Boas and English professional cricketer Graeme Swann.
As an ambassador, Dyer is calling on football fans and people across the country to make a difference and donate an auction item, no matter how big or how small, to help reach the auction’s ambitious £1million target.
Running from 10 – 27 October, the auction offers the chance to bid on some of the football world’s best memorabilia and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Dyer’s prize includes spending time with the former England, Ipswich and Newcastle star, flights and accommodation and tickets to see the Real Madrid v Barcelona game in the Bernabeu Stadium. The lucky winners will get the chance to see the best three players in the World; Messi, Ronaldo and Bale.
Proudly backed by headline supporter BT Sport, Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough auction items for 2013 include lunch with Bill Nighy, a Tottenham Hotspur experience including lunch with Manager, Andre Villas-Boas, a VIP trip to next year’s F1 in Monaco by private ‘Eclipse’ jet, incredible sporting art from Ben Mosley, a week sailing on a luxury catamaran ‘Akasha’, a one-on-one personal bowling tuition with England cricketer Graeme Swann at Lords and Paul Gascoigne’s England match shirt from a pre-Italia ‘90 training game.

Kieron Dyer, Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Online Charity Auction Ambassador, comments:
“I am so proud to continue Sir Bobby’s legacy as an ambassador for the Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Online Charity Auction. Sir Bobby was a wonderful man and was so respected by the football community for his passion and integrity. During my time at Newcastle United I saw firsthand the strength of Sir Bobby’s character and his kindness. I urge everyone across the country to please donate an auction item so we can reach our target of £1million and continue Sir Bobby’s legacy.”
Mark Robson, Sir Bobby’s son and part of the Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough committee, comments: “Sadly, cancer is likely to affect every one of us in one way or another and my family knows firsthand the pain it can cause. The online auction is a fantastic way to help us continue the work my father started and raise crucial funds for these charities. We are delighted to have Kieron as an ambassador for the auction.”
Gina Long, Founder, concludes, “We are truly overwhelmed by the support we have already received but we’re not there yet! At this stage we have 200 auction prizes and we need at least another 200 to reach our target. With the help of our ambassador Kieron Dyer and people across the country I’m sure we can reach our goal. Please, please consider donating a money-can’t-buy prize and help make a real difference.”
